Zara viral leather jacket:

Welcome back to another one of my blogs, this blog post I will be talking about the viral Zara leather jacket. The leather jacket that has become a sensation is originally from Zara. It is a dark green aviator jacket which costs £60, this jacket went viral when Love Islander Molly-Mae Hague posted a picture of her wearing it on her Instagram. From that post everyone began to flood the comments to ask where the jacket was from and that is when she revealed that it was from Zara.(TheSun, 2023)

Now that everybody knew that it was from Zara, people were rushing to get their hands on it which has led to the jacket being sold out in every store and online multiple times all because of Molly Mae’s posts on Instagram. One of her pictures were captioned "Maybe I have taken this jacket off since I bought it, maybe I haven't". (Instagram, 2022) At one point it became nearly impossible to get your hands on. Bearing in mind this was this item was no exclusive item or even from and exclusive brand, it was a jacket from a high street store that turned into a viral sensation. People have even started to sell this jacket on Depop for double the price, yet people still want to buy it as they cannot get it from the Zara website due to it always being sold out.

This is a clear demonstration at the amount of power social media and social media influences have on potential buying customers on the internet. Nowadays it is so easy to persuade or promote an item to fans and get them to buy it as these fans put their trust in who they look up to, so they trust their opinion. However, when brands realise that something is popular, they like to follow the trends and create something that is similar. Primark seized this opportunity to create a similar looking jacket for a fraction of the price. This also was selling out like crazy as people were saving £25 by getting this £35 jacket instead. (Upton-Clark, 2022)

This viral jacket has now been nicknamed “the Molly Mae jacket”, and in personal experience I have seen it on nearly everybody. After I myself as a big fan of Molly Mae purchased it, I began to see multiple people every day wearing the same jacket. Even at university I would be wearing it along with my friends.
